Well all of Kels skin infections have come down to him having:

sebaceous adenitis: condition in which the sebaceous glands in the skin become inflamed for unknown reasons, and are eventually destroyed. These glands normally produce sebum, a fatty secretion that helps prevent drying of the skin.

diagnosis requires microscopic examination of a skin biopsy by a veterinary pathologist

It appears that the disorder is inherited as an autosomal recessive trait in the standard poodle; however the wide variation in clinical signs suggests that inheritance is not straightforward, and breeding studies continue.
It is most common in Poodles.

Kels is on antibiotics to help clear up the infections that are there now.
Also I have to give him special shampoos at least one time a week with 3 different products to remove the dry patches that can then become infected spots.

I've trimmed down his hair so there is less of it to dry.

The Hot Spot from Hell!

Poor Kelsey, this all developed last weekend. On friday night there was a small spot between his eyes. Then Saturday night there was more & Sunday morning it was just gross & oozing!

So off to the vet on Monday afternoon & they shaved his face, cleaned it up & gave him Pred. & an antibiotic.

He is doing much better today, 1-31-09 after a week on meds, the conehead is gone & his face has dried up.

We have no idea how he got a hot spot in the middle of winter!
